Lynn Johston on her drawing process
TOM HEINTJES: What do you draw with?
LYNN JOHNSTON: I use an H-B lead in a mechanical pencil. I like the feel of it. You see, my hands perspire terribly. I find that I can't stand the feeling of certain things in my hand, and wood is one of them. I wear animator's gloves when I work because my hands perspire so badly. It's a real problem. So on my right hand I always wear an animator's glove when I work. It's so funny, because I cut the first three fingers out. I buy them from the local photo shop, and I throw them in the wash. So I've got a drawer full of these stupid gloves with the fingers chopped out. Sometimes I'll wash them with the dark clothes so they'll all come out purple or green. I often don't like people to watch me draw because these gloves look so silly, but I really do need something on my right hand to keep the perspiration from affecting the line of my work.
