Milt Caniff on ego

CANIFF: There's danger in becoming a "cartoonist's cartoonist," because you can begin to believe your own press notices. It's the same with the theatre, or any other publicly offered medium. You've got to use all of this as a tool. "Tool" is the only word I can think of. It's a tool to bolster your ego, to make you feel good, but it's a tool. For heaven's sake, don't believe it, but do use it.
