Walt Kelly on potentially being an editorial cartoonist
FROM THE AUDIENCE: I was wondering, with this desire to be right on it, if you ever considered doing a political cartoon and syndicating it?
KELLY: I've come to this conclusion, having worked as a newspaper reporter and a cartoonist at the same time and trying to work as a story man and producer of this animation special that I did at MGM: I don't think anybody can really do two good jobs at the same time. I think he has to do one. And whereas I might take quick and occasional flyer at writing a magazine piece, I wouldn't want to get into the position of doing a special job, three or four times a week even, as an editorial cartoonist, and also try to do a real job on the comic strip. I draw fast but I don't think fast.
